I know I have not been updating this blog for like - the past 2 weeks or so again. I sincerely apologise for that. I have been busy the past couple of weeks.

I have met up with lots of people who are interested in Internet Marketing recently, and I am really happy to see that more and more people are interested to make money online.

I have also received lots of questions regarding Internet Marketing and some some of them are as follows:

- "How much time do I have to put in everyday to make money on the Internet?"

Apologies for the No-Update

I would like to sincerely apologise to all of you for "disappearing" for 2 weeks - I was struck down by an eye infection for 2 weeks. It's very tough working with 1 eye and I'm happy to say that I've fully recovered. :) Right after I've recovered, I have got tonnes and tonnes of work to clear, and I've practically been working non-stop the past couple of days.

There's something I'll like to share with all of you today, and that is - there's an upcoming Internet Marketing seminar by Fabian Lim this coming Wednesday, 22 August 2007, at Sheraton Towers from 7.30pm - 9.30pm. Monetizing Your Website - Have You Done So?

I love reading blogs - especially personal blogs. Whenever I'm free, I'll go "blog hunting" and read friends blogs or search around for interesting blogs.

One thing I've noticed when I visit blogs is that very few of them actually monetize their blogs - do you know something? Even if the blog you own is a personal blog, you too can make money from it. Let me give you an example - let's say your blog entry today is about a movie you've watched (for example - Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix). You comment on how good this movie is, the interesting scenes, etc. You can monetize that particular entry by having products relating to Harry Potter (such as Harry Potter books from Amazon.com, Harry Potter merchandise from ebay, so on and so forth) for sale. The way you can make money is this - whenever people click on these links and make a purchase, you'll get a commission. It's as simple as that!

Review of "Site Stealer"

If you have subscribed to Joel Comm or Michael Cheney's mailing list, you would probably have heard about this new product - "Site Stealer", where Sal (the product creator) teaches you how you can steal other people's products and make profits legally. Here's a screenshot of the product salespage (click on the screenshot to view the product sales page - it will open up in a new Window):

"Steal" here doesn't mean hacking into the product owner's site and take everything but rather, it means copying ideas (layout, wordings, etc) from profitable product sales pages, and using them for your own product sales page (plus some other tactics).

I got hold of the product and finished reading it and here's my review of the product - personally, I do not think this is suitable for absolute beginners (although it is mentioned in the product sales page somewhere it's suitable for beginners). If you are just starting off with Internet Marketing, you'll probably be lost in the jungle (or worse - totally giving up on Internet Marketing) after reading this book.

I think Sal's book is more suitable for those who have some experience in Internet Marketing - in particular those who have experience in affiliate marketing or those who have their own products to sell online (either via Clickbank, PayDotCom, etc. Sal gave a very clear explaination on how you can sell your products online. If you are planning to sell your products online, then this book will be very beneficial for you (Click here if you like to get a copy of Sal's Site Stealer).

Outstanding Points about Sal's Site Stealer - Sal gave a very clear and comprehensive explanation on what are "Private Label Rights", "Resell Rights", "Master Resell Rights", "Full Resell Rights" (from all the Internet Marketing books I've read, Sal's Site Stealer is the best when it comes to explanation of these terms. He has provided very good examples as well on these).

If you are a complete newbie, and would like to learn step-by-step about Internet Marketing, I would strongly recommend you to get Ewen Chia's Newbie Cash Machine instead - the reason is because Ewen, in this book, broke all the steps down step-by-step - from how you can research for your niche market, how you can find profitable products online, how you can sell them online and make money, and more (Click here to go to the product sales page of Ewen Chia's Newbie Cash Machine).

However, if you are intending to go into sell your own products online (eBook, audio, video, etc), then Sal's Site Stealer is a book you have to read (Click here to view the sales page of Sal's Site Stealer).

How Do I See Country-Specific Targetted Ads in Google?

Today's post will be useful if you are using Google Adwords to advertise your products.

I'm sure you'll do some researching on the Google search engine before you start a campaign in Google Adwords to start advertising your products, right?

How do you do your research? Let me give you an example - Let's say I want to sell products related to "dog training", and I want to see how many advertisers have already advertised on the keyword "dog training", I would go to Google.com and type in the search term "dog training". What do I get? I'll see the following page:

Look at the sponsored listings - those on the right-hand side as well as those in the yellow-highlighted boxes on the left. The ads that appear are those that the advertisers choose to target the keyword "dog training", and they want their ads to appear in
Google Singapore.

So how can you see ads that are US-targetted? Very simple, to be able to see US-targetted ads, just append the words &gl=us to the end of the URL, and press enter. You'll see the following:

In the above screenshot, you'll see only US-targetted ads.

Let me repeat how you can append the words &gl=us in your URL:

Let's say the original URL is:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=dog+training&btnG=Google+Search

To see US-targetted ads, all you need to do is to append the words &gl=us at the end of the url, like this:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=dog+training&btnG=Google+Search&gl=us

And press "Enter" once you're done - it's that simple.

If you like to see ads that are targetted to Australia, change the word "us" to "au" instead ("au" is the country abbreviation for australia). For Canada, change the word to "ca", for Germany, change to "de", so on and so forth.

Future of Google Adsense

For those of you who are monetizing your web with Google Adsense, here's a video you'll like to watch, where Joel Comm, the Adsense expert, talks about the future of Google Adsense, and how this will affect you:

My thoughts? I could not have agreed more with what Joel has said. Content is king. The more content-rich website you have, the higher you'll be ranked on the Google search engine in the organic listings (organic listings are sites listed on the left-hand site in a Google search page. You need not pay a single cent to get to the number one spot). The higher you're ranked on the Google search engine, the easier it will be for people who are searching for information on a subject which you have a website about, to find and visit your website. With more people visiting your site, the chances of them clicking on your Google Adsense advertisements after reading your articles is much higher, and thereby bringing you cash - from Google Adsense. Simple, isn't it?

I also could not have agreed more with what Joel said about "picking a topic you are interested in". This cannot be more true - if you were to create a website on something you are passionate about, you'll find it easier to write articles on it, and, in return, money will come in from your content-based websites.

Ewen Chia's Instant Internet Business

Lots of people attended this seminar held at Sheraton Towers on Thursday, 05 July 2007 - more than 200. I was pretty lucky to find myself a seat at the front row. :) Here's a photo of Ewen Chia presenting at the seminar:

Today, I'm going to do a brief summary of the seminar (for the benefit of those who could not make it). Ewen covered the basics of Internet Marketing - like why should we go into Internet Marketing and stuff (I've covered all these in great detail in my previous postings). It's all the same, so I shan't cover them again. He also covered a great deal on his "Instant Internet Business". Here's a model of Ewen's "Instant Internet Business":

I shall go into each of these in more detail:

Step 1: Market

The first step involves finding a market - if you do not have a market, you can't have a business. It's as simple as that. The way you pick your market is to find a topic that we have an affinity for - meaning, you can pick a market which you have interest in. Let's say you are interested in golf. You can delve into a market selling golf balls, golf clubs, how to improve golf swing, etc.

The reason why it is preferable you choose a market you have affinity for is because "you are the market". You will know first hand what people in your market want, what problems do they have and are trying to solve.

The secret to success is to focus on ONE (1) market (notice how I've capitalised and bolded the word "ONE") and become and expert in that market. Don't try do go into 1 market today, another market the next, so on and so forth. You'll never succeed.

Step 2: Present Offer

Without an offer, you can forget about making money in your business. Makes sense? :) After identifying the problems your affinity have, next you have to look for an offer which will solve their problem. It's very important here - you need to provide people with what they want.

If you identify that most people playing golf have problems in improving their swing, you can come out with ebooks, or even videos, to teach them how to improve their swing. Alternatively, you can search the Internet for solutions and present to them (of course you have to include your affiliate link so you'll get paid if they purchase the product you've introduced - that's affiiliate marketing).

You can look for products to sell as affiliate by either going to Google and type in " Affiliate Program". Let's say you want to go into the "Dog Training" market, and you want to look for affiliate programs relating to "Dog Training", simply go to Google and type in "Dog Training Affiliate Market" (omit the inverted commas). You'll see lots of sites relating to Dog Training Affiliate Market, which you've searched for.

Alternatively, you can sign up as an affiliate im Amazon (amazon.com - scroll all the way down, and click on the link "Join Associates" to sign up). Amazon will pay you 10% commission for every item you sell.

What's Next?

Now that you have identified your potential customers' problem, and offer to present to them, what's next?

In order to present your offer to your potential customers for maximum results and of course, money, you must:

- Have your own website to present your offer (you can monetize your website with Google Adsense to generate multiple streams of income, and also you can use your website to build your list of customers)
- Provide value to your visitors (you must convince them why should they buy the product that you're selling)

Step 3: Get Traffic To Your Website

After you have everything up, you need to drive traffic to your website. No point having everything up and realise there's nobody visiting your website.

You need not drive millions of people to your website - the key here is, you need to drive targetted, qualified traffic to your website. (No point driving people who are looking for information on how to improve golf swing to your site that's selling an ebook on how to train your dog in 3-days - they will not buy your ebook).

You can make use of Google Adwords, forums, Yahoo Answers, etc. to drive highly targetted, quality traffic to your website.

In conclusion, in order to succeed in Internet Marketing, you must:

1. Find a Profitable Market
2. Provide your potential customers with an offer (such as an ebook, audio, video)
3. Be able to drive highly targetted, quality traffic to your website (the key here is to go for quality of traffic, not quantity)

Which One To Focus?

There are lots of high-quality products available on the Internet on Internet Marketing today - tonnes and tonnes of new ebooks coming out everyday talking about things like having a good squeeze page, optimize your site for search engines, PLR (Private Label Rights) articles, etc. Not forgetting the tonnes of teleseminars, mp3s, videos that are also readily available online about these topics.

Surely you can't focus on everything. I can't focus on everything either. So which one to focus on?

I totally agree with what Joel has said - pick one topic, and focus on one till you succeed. Previously, I also made the same mistake trying to grab as many thing as I can on all the topics on Internet Marketing, but failed miserably. Trust me on that. I failed BIG TIME! Now that I'm focusing on one topic at a time, I'm beginning to see some results - not great results as you think I would have achieved, but significant improvements. :)

Elements of a Good Product Sales Page

What constitutes a good product sales page? Whether or not you have a product to sell, it is essential you know the elements of a good product sales page. Why do I say so? If you are an affiliate marketer, knowing the elements of a good sales page will help determine whether or not a particular product is worth your time promoting. If you have your own product to sell, creating a good sales page will help increase product conversions - resulting in more money going into your pocket! :)

I'll like to share with you today a 50-minute video from Ewen Chia as he talks about the elements of a good sales page. Click here to download the video.

Here's a summary of the video:

Header
If graphics is used for a header (optional), it should be:
- Professional (Graphics should look professional. Ewen recommended 2 sites for good web graphics - webgraphicscreator.com and minisitegraphics.com)
- Graphics should have your picture (to increase credibility and let people know they are dealing with a human being and not a robot)
- Main benefit of your product
- Your product URL

Headline
Headlines should be used to describe the ultimate benefit of the product you are selling - it should NOT focus on features. People are not interested in what features your product have, but how would it benefit them. It should answer the question of "What will my buyers get ultimately when they purchase my product".

The headline should be outstanding - it should get the attention of your potential customers. You can do so by using thicker fonts for your headlines (Ewen recommends using either Tahoma or Arial Black for headlines). You can also grab the attention of your potential customers by using bolding, highlighting, underlining, italics appropriately.

Sub Headline
Sub Headline (optional) is used to describe what your product does.

Body of Salescopy
- Include your photograph in your sales copy, and also, if possible, an audio as well. This can greatly improve your credibility and create branding. Having an audio will seem as if you are there physically talking to your potential customers. This is a great plus if you have it in your salescopy.

- Have as many sub headlines as possible in your sales copy - use them to help portray your product benefits. Use of sub-headlines also help in the ease of reading.

- Break up paragraphs into short sentences. Use single sentences to illustrate important points (use bolding, highlighting, italics to bring important points across if necessary).

- Ewen recommends using Arial size 12 for the words in the sales copy.

- Use of phrases such as "Information can be found in Page XX" to arose your potential customer's interest in buying the product.

- Have product purchase links midway through the page to allow people to click on it and go directly to the bottom of the sales page that allow them to purchase the product immediately. (Having such links will help improve product coversions)

Bullet Points
- Ewen recommends the use of bullet points. The more bullet points there are in a product sales copy, the easier it will be for a product to be sellable.

Testimonials
The purpose of having testimonials is to help bring across benefits and credibility. Benefits are treated as 3rd party endorsements and many people make purchases based on these 3rd party endorsements.

Each testimonial should have a full name of the person who gave the testimonial, his/her photograph (if possible) the country he/she is from, website (if any). DO NOT hyperlink the website address, as it will lead to people clicking on it and bringing them away from your product sales page (you wouldn't want that to happen).

One tip given by Ewen in his video is that a good product sales page should not have any hyperlinks other than the order link.

Money Back Guarantee
You should have a money back guaranteee so as to give people more confidence in buying your product. Also, you should make use of a "Money Back Guarantee" logo to make it more believable and tangible.

Use a different background color (use bright colors) for your "Money Back Guarantee" column so as to make it stand out.

Graphics of Your E-Book
By having a 3D picture of your e-book in your product sales page will make your product stand up, and to increase the tangibility of your product.

Order Form
Your ebook should appear in the order form to bring up the tangibility again.

You should have graphics to denote the different forms of payments acceptable (Credit Cards, Paypal, E-Gold, etc.)

Make your order form outstanding - make use of Johnson boxes.

Bonuses
Yes! People love bonuses - your bonuses should be placed above the final order button. Highlight the benefits of your bonuses. Let them know the value (monetary value) of each of your bonuses. Let them know the total value they are getting should they purchase your product.

Opt-Ins
One final thing Ewen highlighted is the use of opt-ins in your product sales page. He sited the fact that people usually do not buy when they first visit your product sales page. Therefore, if you do not have any way to capture your potential customers, you will not be able to follow up with them.

Ewen described 3 different types of opt-ins a product sales page could have - namely:

1. Having a separate name squeeze page before your product sales page to collect your prospective customers' name and email address. This means that before anyone can visit your product sales page, they will have to enter their first name and email address before they can proceed. (Thereafter, you can follow-up with them with 5 - 7 autoresponse messages telling them the benefits of your product).

2. Having a opt-in form within the product sales letter.

3. Having a pop-out pop-in page. A pop-out pop-in page is a pop-out that appears when you enter a product sales page that tells you to sign up for some free ebooks or e-course.

Paid Surveys - Money Spinner or Scam?

My topic for today is about Paid Surveys. Does paid survey programs make you lots of money or are they just pure scam?

I'm sure you've come across sites where people tell you how much they are making from paid surveys, how much they are enjoying life now from the money made from paid surveys, etc. You get excited and continue reading... When you reach the bottom of these pages, you'll see a link telling you to sign up for these paid survey programs (where you have to pay somewhere around US$40, or even more), and start making money immediately from participating in surveys.

The thought of being able to make big money from surveys (and also the fact that there's some 60-day money back guarantee) made me sign up for one of the highly recommended paid survey programs (I can't reveal the name of the site for privacy purposes). I paid about $40 registration fee to sign up as a member.

Upon signing up, an email was sent to me with a generic user ID and password where I can access the member's page. I've made a screen capture of one of the member's page, as follows:

In the above screenshot, you see a list of paid survey sites you can join and start making money. Upon clicking on each of these sites, the survey company's page will be loaded in a new Window where you can sign up. Payment of fees will be made by the individual survey companies.

You can also get paid to shop, read emails, or drive. Each of this link contains a list of sites where you can sign up and make money.

I'm not saying that these paid sites are scams - BUT, there actually NO NEED to pay to get these list of paid survey sites!! - Simply go to Google.com and type in "free paid surveys" and you'll see the following:

In the above screenshot, you'll see a list of free paid survey sites where you can join and start making money - and the best part is, these free paid survey sites are EXACTLY what you'll see in the paid survey program that I've paid!

I asked for a refund immediately - less than 24 hours after I've signed up... I sent an email to both Clickbank, as well as to the vendor. The vendor didn't respond to my request, but Clickbank did, and I got my refund back the following day.

My advice for you is - DO NOT sign up for these paid survey programs. They are not worth your money at all. If you like to make money from surveys, just go to Google.com and type in "free paid surveys", "free paid emails", "free paid shopping", etc., and you'll get lots of sites where you can site up for FREE and start making money.

What NOT to Sell Online

Everybody's been asking "What's the most profitable product to sell online?", "Which product will make me the most money in the shortest amount of time?", but I see that nobody's been asking this question "What NOT to sell online?".

Today, I'll like to share with you an article by Derek Gehl, CEO of Internet Marketing Centre, on What NOT to sell online.

The following are 3 golden rules shared by Derek Gehl on what NOT to sell online:

Rule #1: Don't sell something people can easily buy at the local supermarket!

Or mall, or hardware store, or electronics shop, or sports store, etc. etc.

Why would people go online to buy something they can easily get on their regular weekly shopping trip?

Unless you can offer something truly unique -- such as a lower price or a hard-to-find product -- you'll find it tough to compete with the convenience and the lack of shipping costs those offline alternatives offer.

Rule #2: Don't sell a "time-sensitive" product!

If you try to sell something people need RIGHT AWAY, you're going to have a hard time convincing them to wait a few days for it to be shipped to them.

For example, if you do proper keyword research you'll see that thousands of people do searches every month on the keyword, "cure sore throat fast."

But here's the challenge: If someone wants to cure a sore throat fast, do you think they're going to wait for you to ship a herbal remedy? No! They're looking for immediate results. And once their cold has gone, their desire to buy any kind of cough remedy will vanish along with it.

Rule #3: Don't enter a market with a massive amount of competition!

If there's already a huge number of savvy marketers selling to your intended market, you should probably choose a different market.

Take world-famous online "shopping mall" Amazon.com, for example. They're one of the hugest online vendors out there. If you decide to start your own catalog site selling a general selection of books, or music, or DVDs, how will you ever be able to compete with an industry giant like Amazon?

Unless you figure out a way to offer a lower price (doubtful) or cater to a very specific niche Amazon hasn't yet tapped (difficult), you're going to have a hard time getting your business off the ground.

Nothing is impossible... but the more competitive a market, the more time and money it will cost for you to become successful.

The above picture was a "Pulitzer Prize" winning photo, taking in 1994 during the Sudan famine.

The picture depicted a famine stricken child crawling towards an United Nations food camp, which was located approximately a metre away.

Look at the vulture behind the child - it is waiting for the child to die so that it can eat it.

This picture shocked the whole world.

No one knew what happened to the child in the end, including the photographer Kevin Carter who left the place as soon as the photograph was taken.

3 months later, it was reported that Kevin Carter had committed suicide due to depression.

My Review of "Google Cash Strikes Back"

Managed to take sometime off to read through the whole "Google Cash Strikes Back" report, as well as watch the 2 videos in detail, and would like to share with you my review of "Google Cash Strikes Back".

Just a little overview - when Chris Carpenter released his "Google Cash" method in late 2003, it opened up a whole new way to making money on the Internet. Making money using the "Google Cash" method is relatively easy - all you need to do is to source for an affiliate program, get your affiliate link (you can get your affiliate link by applying as an affiliate with the merchant, and you'll receive an affiliate link where, whenever someone click on it and makes a purchase, you'll make a commission), put your affiliate link on search engines using Pay-Per-Click (PPC) (like Google Adwords, Yahoo Search Marketing, MSN Search Engine, Miva, etc.). That's it! You'll start to see profits coming in no time! :) That's "Google Cash" method for you.

"Google Cash" method is a very easy method for affiliates (especially affiliates who are new to Internet Marketing), to profit in the shortest amount of time possible, and using the least amount of money.

However, as more and more affiliates are making use of "Google Cash" to generate income, it becomes tougher and tougher to profit using this method, as there are more and more competition, and prices of keywords are getting higher and higher.

Death of "Google Cash" Method?

It is the death of the "Google Cash" method? According to Chris, not quite. He has recently released a whole new method to profitting using the "Google Cash" method. This time - the whole "Google Cash" method is automated, using his new "Google Cash" programs called "Google Cash Detector" and "Google Cash Automator".

What these 2 programs does is that it will basically do all the research for you - it will identify the most profittable keywords, the most profittable campaigns in Google Adwords for a particular subject, the cost per click for your ad to be in the 1st or 3rd position, etc. You need not manually grab all these information - "Google Cash Detector" will grab all these information for you.

All you need to do next is to actually "copy" these profitable keywords, ads to "Google Adwords" and start your own campaign and start profitting. Here's the good news - even this step is also automated, using another program called "Google Cash Automator". Amazing, isn't it?

It's so simple that Chris decided to ask a 15 year old Mexican girl to test out his "Google Cash Detector" and "Google Cash Automator", and the result was, she made over US$1,000 within a month!

Within the member page, there are 2 videos that Chris has created specially for you. The first video (about 14 minutes), Chris demonstrated how to make use of the "Google Cash Detector" to search for profittable campaigns, keywords that are converting (into sales), how to import profittable keywords and ads into the "Google Cash Automator", etc.

My Thoughts

After reading the report and viewing the 2 videos, I can say that Chris certainly make things look really, really simple. Everything is automated - from research to setting up campaigns, etc. All you need to do is to wait for money to come in. If you ask me, I am not very certain whether this method WILL work for sure (it varies from person to person), but there's no harm trying it out (if the cost of setting up an account in "Google Cash Detective" and "Google Cash Automator" is reasonable enough).

First and foremost, I would like to sincerely apologise for not updating the blog for like... the past 2 weeks or so... or even more than that. I've been terribly busy lately with Internet Marketing - testing out the different ways to sell on the Internet (I will be talking more on that in my next blog entries). I know that's not an excuse, so I will try my utmost best to post at least 1 entry every week from now on...

HOW TO GET STARTED WITH INTERNET MARKETING

The reason many of us jump onto the Internet Marketing speed wagon (myself included) is because it is possible to make big money on the Internet. There are lots of money -making opportunities available on the Internet for us to get rich. Having said that, many of us will be stuck with questions like “Where should I start?”, “How do I get started”, “What should I do first?” when starting off with Internet Marketing.

If you are having problems in answering the above questions, don’t fret. Let me give you the 3-step formula you need to get started with Internet Marketing:

Step 1: Research Your Market, And Decide What To Sell Online

One of the first things you should do to get started is to take a piece of paper and start writing down a list of everything you are good at and have a serious interest in. The reason why I asked you to do so is because if you try selling something that you do not have good knowledge in, chances are you will not do well.

If you are stuck in identifying the things you are good at and have a serious interest in, let me help you out - You can ask yourself questions like:

- What am I interested in?
- What am I passionate about?
- What are the things I do during my spare time?
- What subjects / topics do you know a lot about?
- What are people always coming to me for advice about?

I hope you’ve managed to write down something.

After you have identified the list of things you are interested in, you need to do a market research. You can go to Overture (http://inventory.overture.com) and find out how many people are looking for information on your area of interest. If the number is high, it means that the chances of you making money in that area are high as well. You can also sign up for online forums to find out what people are looking for specifically (People go online to find solutions to their problems. Therefore, the products we sell must be specific to their problems).

Step 2: Look for Products To Solve People’s Problems

After you have done your research, you need to look for products that will solve people’s problems you’ve identified.

You need not create your own product to sell (its very time-consuming and tedious). You can sell products as an affiliate (selling as an affiliate means you’re selling someone else’s products in return for a commission. You need not worry about handling transactions, product delivery, etc. The product owner will do it for you. All you need is to get people to buy their products) in the following:

- Click Bank – Deals with electronic products such as ebooks, audios, videos, etc. (www.clickbank.com)
- Commission Junction – Deals with physical products, i.e. products that need to be shipped physically to the buyer. (www.cj.com)

Signing up for both Click bank and Commission Junction is free. You also need not pay anything to sell as an affiliate.

Step 3: Create Product Awareness

In order for your product to be able to sell, you need to first let people know about the product that you have. There are several ways you can do to create product awareness – both free and paid methods.

Let me first talk about some of the free methods you can use – you can write some articles on the product you are selling and post of article directories such as Ezine Articles (www.ezinearticles.com), Articles Factory (www.articlesfactory.com), Idea Marketers (www.ideamarketers.com), etc. You can post an advertisement about the product in free classified advertisement sites, such as US Free Ads (www.usfreeads.com). You can also advertise on your website, blog, or even in your Friendster or MySpace account. There are many ways to advertise for free. The above are just some of them.

For paid advertising, you can advertise the product you are selling in search engines, such as Google, Yahoo and MSN.

For Google, your product link will appear under the “Sponsored Links” column (see picture below). You only pay Google when someone clicks on your link to visit the product page (this is called pay-per-click (PPC) advertising).

Once you are done with the 3 steps I’ve listed above, you can now sit back, relax, and wait for your commission checks to come in.

I finally got the time to sit down again to type a blog entry for you guys. I've been terribly busy the past couple of days setting up my affiliate marketing sites, trying to push some products out to market. Trust me, it was a very tiring process - doing all the research, and also whipping up a lead page. I shall not reveal how exactly I did it first, because I am not very sure myself I did it correctly. The only way I can judge whether I've done everything correctly is with sales. Yes... Once I managed to bring money in, I'll reveal to you guys how exactly I did everything - from research all the way to product selling.

So much about my Internet Marketing developments. Back to the topic for today.

During Stephen Pierce's seminar last Wednesday, he mentioned that one of the best ways to drive traffic to your site is through the use of videos. Stephen Pierce’s “Unleash Your Marketing Genius” Seminar

Did you go for Stephen Pierce’s “Unleash Your Marketing Genius” seminar last night? If you have, did you learn something new from him? I certainly have. For those of you who did not attend for whatever reason, not to worry. I am going to post, in this entry, the discussions from last night’s seminar.

Stephen Pierce started off the whole seminar by telling everyone his life-story – how he turned from being homeless to making multi-million dollars on the Internet. His success certainly doesn’t come easily – at one point he was out of home, out of cash, and he had to borrow money from people to start a business, and it failed! Stephen’s really determined to succeed, and he did not stop taking action after he failed. He tried and tried again and eventually, he succeeded. He now has multi-million dollars to his name, and all these don’t come with 1 day of effort. It’s years of cumulative effort.

We are in fact no different from Stephen. We are also no different from people like Bill Gates, Richard Branson, Warren Buffet. We have the same amount of neurons as people like them (except for smokers, who lose some from the harmful effects of smoking. Haha!) And the one thing we have that’s so invaluable is…. No, not money… but TIME. Yes… We have the most valuable thing in our own hands – Time. Money can be earned back, but not time. Once time passes you by, it’s over. You can never go back to the past (unless you have some time machine or something that can bring you back to the past). How we make use of our time really determines our success.

How important is success to you?

Just how important is success to you? Do you wish/hope/want to succeed, or is it a MUST to succeed for you?

These 2 mean totally different things – by saying you wish/hope/want to succeed, success isn’t a MUST, success is a good to have, success is an ideal… but not a MUST. When something is not a MUST, you’ll start to procrastinate, you’ll start to waste time away… and by doing so, you will NOT be successful. Success to you will always be an illusion.

However, if success to you is a MUST, you will do whatever it takes to achieve it. You will spend time everyday working towards your success, you will set goals, define strategies to move towards your goals, and most importantly, you will take ACTION to become successful. By doing so, there is still no guarantee that you’ll be successful. But if you try and try and try again, you’ll one day be successful. That’s just the way it is.

Barracuda vs Mullet

Stephen shared with us the story of Barracuda vs Mullet. Both Barracuda and Mullet are different kinds of fishes. Barracuda feeds on Mullet for survival. One day, they did an experiment – they put one Barracuda and several Mullets in a tank. However, the Barracuda was separated from the Mullets by a piece of glass.

So what did the Barracuda do when it sees the Mullets? It charged towards Mullets and *WHAM*… It hit that piece of glass. Undeterred, it tried again, and it hit that piece of glass again. It then tried again, and again, and again… with the impact softened at each attempt, as it got tired. It then gave up and stayed at one corner of the tank.

After some time, the piece of glass was removed from the tank. Now the Mullets were unprotected from the Barracuda, and the Barracuda could now feed on the Mullets! But it continued staying at one corner of the tank and eventually died of hunger.

What does this story tell us? It simply tells us that success could very well be just one step away… Yeah…. Just ONE more step away. Had the Barracuda tried one more time, it would not have died of hunger. He would be able to eat up all the Mullets and survive… Not just survive but have its stomach bloated with Mullets! But it did not try again, and died in the end…

The conclusion is this – Its not about how hard you get hit, but how hard you get hit and keep pressing forward.

No one is perfect

No one is perfect… Everyone makes mistakes and gets hit at a certain point in time. Take for example, when you are studying, do you ALWAYS get a 100% in all your examination? Certainly not, right?

When we look at successful people like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Richard Branson, we tend to focus on their success. We admire how good they are… but did we actually focus on the steps they took to success? Did we actually look into the amount of losses they make before they attain success? They probably lose much more than us – much more…. Not just money but time as well. But did it deter them from wanting to succeed? Of course not! If they give up after a few tries, we will not see Microsoft today. We will not see Virgin Airways today.

Everyone is a marketer

Stephen shared with us one thing – “Everyone of us IS a marketer”. You may say – “I’m not a salesperson… How can you say I’m a marketer?” But the fact is, all of us ARE marketers.

When you are interviewing for a job, do you just sit there and keep mum and get the job? Of course not! You will tell the interviewer everything that’s good about you – your achievements, your education, your previous working experience, what you can offer the company, etc. Am I right? By doing so, you are already marketing yourself! You are selling yourself to the company? And how do you know when you’ve clinched the deal? You’ve clinched the deal when you got the job you went for interview for! =)

Let me give you another example – when you like someone to be your partner, do you just wait there and pray that he/she comes to you? Of course not! You’ll think of ways to impress him/her, you’ll think of ways to attract his/her attention right? By doing that, you are already trying to market yourself… How do you know you’ve clinched the deal? – When he/she agrees to be your partner! =)

Yeah! We are all marketers by nature.

7 Steps to Achieving Success on the Internet

Step 1:
Do a market research to pick the right market.

You must have a specialized niche in order to make money on the Internet (e.g. “Golf balls” is more specialized niche compared to just “Golf”) There are a few tips Stephen gave on this – Got to Amazon.com, and look for products that are most popular right now. He also suggested looking into “New York Times Best Sellers List”

Step 2:
Do a product research to pick the right product

You can either choose to create your own product, resell and re-brand other people’s product, obtain Private Label Rights for other people’s product, or sell as affiliate.

For those of you who like to create your own product but not sure what products you can create, think about this – What are the things you like to do in your spare time? What are the things I’m good at? What do I know about?

You may want to do up something like the following to help you identify the products you can sell:

Step 3:
You can choose to market information products, such as audios, videos, reports, books, courses, newsletters. Information products are the easiest to sell simply because you need not worry about shipping costs, you need not worry about warehousing, etc. Digital products can be sent to the buyer immediately after payment.

Step 4:
Use lead generation advertising. Build a list of “interested” people (leads), and sell to your leads. 7 – 12% of the leads purchase the products at the end of the day.

NEVER EVER direct your leads directly to the sales page. People do not normally purchase when they see your site the first time. After they leave, there is no way you can follow-up with them. It is very unlikely they’ll re-visit your web again. You can say that you have just lost a potential customer.

Take for example a salesperson, if he/she gives up after being rejected the first time, he/she will never be able to capture any sales.

You must always create a lead capture page – a page where you request for a person’s name and email address, before bringing them to the sales page. Once you’ve captured the person’s name and email address, you can send follow-ups to him/her.

Even if your leads do not buy this time round, it is ok. When you have other products of a similar nature, you can send emails to your leads to tell them about it.

Step 5:
You need to use the top ways to market your products.

You can choose to use either MySpace, Youtube, blogs, links (bidclix.com, adbrite.com), ezines, solo ads, CraigsList, banner ads, articles writing and submitting, press releases, etc. to create product awareness.

80% of Internet Marketing success is dependent on your ability to generate traffic to the product you are selling on the Internet.

You can have the most fanciful website, you can have the best product offer, you can have the best support. However, if you do not know how to generate traffic to your website, you will not make any sales. It’s as simple as that.

There are 3 types of traffic – free traffic, performance traffic and paid traffic.

I’m sure you know what free traffic and paid traffic is. Free traffic is traffic you get without you paying for it (e.g. someone sees your website and tells his/her friends about it, and they visit your web. These are called free traffic). Paid traffic is traffic you get by paying (such as Pay Per Click).

Performance traffic is traffic that you pay only after something has taken place (such as one of your affiliates sold your product, and you need to pay him/her a certain amount of commission – that is performance traffic).

Step 6:
You can make use of auto-responders to generate cash at a rabbit-breeding rate. You can make use of auto-responders to send emails to your leads who signed up in your lead capture page and chances are, if you deal appeals, they’ll buy your products.

Step 7:
You should make use of the cash injection accelerator.

Here are some cash injection generators – One Time Offer, Bonus Offer, Limited Time Offer, Bundled Offer, Last Chance Offer. Offer your leads offers. Give them an irresistible offer.

How to Write Killer Email Promos that Effectively Convert into Sales

The use of email is so widespread nowadays – either at work, as a form of communication with colleagues, superiors and counterparts, or at home, as a form of communication with friends both local and overseas.

Do you know that emails can also be used as a communication tool to sell ebooks, software, live seminars, consultation packages, home study courses, etc.? If the right email tactics are used, these emails can help you make big money on demand.

Michael Rasmussen has just shared with me some of the very best tactics to create a killer email and I’ll like to share what I’ve learnt with all of you. For those who do not know who Michael Rasmussen is, let me do a brief introduction. Michael Rasmussen is one of the most soft after Joint Venture (JV) partners in the world. He has the power to create email promotions that effectively convert into gross sales that amounted $162,000 and $81,000 in net profit. Amazing, isn’t it?

Learning how to write emails is like playing an instrument

Why is that so? Because it is impossible for you to be able to write a good solid email that effectively converts into sales by just reading this article alone (I’m sorry to say that).

You need to practise the skills learnt in this article. Just like when you are learning how to play an instrument – you need to first learn how to read the musical notes, then musical scales, patterns and exercises. You need to constantly practice. Let me give you another example. Let’s say you want to learn how to ride a bicycle. Do you think you’ll be able to master how a bicycle properly by just reading a step-by-step book on how to ride a bicycle? No. You only gain the basic knowledge necessary to ride a bicycle. You need to constantly practise riding on the bicycle in order to master it.

The same goes for learning how to write killer email promos – you need to constantly practice writing them. One good tip Michael has shared with us is to print out those good email promos you receive, and write out the whole email in your own handwriting. In the process of doing so, your mind gets trained subconsciously to write a killer email.

1st step to writing killer emails promos - set your intention

Before you begin writing your mail promo, you need to set your intention. You need to ask yourself what you want to accomplish from this email promo that you’re going to send out – whether is it to sell 25 copies of your products within 7 days, get 50 people to sign up for a 30 day trial of your product, motivate your readers to promote your newsletter, the list goes on and on and on…

If you have an intention, your emails will be very tightly focused. You should also bear in mind that you should remove anything that does not directly affect your outcome from your email promo.

2nd step to writing killer email promos – Ask yourself 6 magic questions

Are you with me so far? Good.

The 2nd step to writing killer email promos is to ask yourself these 6 magic questions:

Question 1: What is your intention?
What is your intention of sending out your email promo?

Is it to get reader to sign up for a free account at a free advertisement forum you are promoting?

Is it to motivate reader to place their 1st free advertisement rightaway?

You have to very clearly define your intention.

Question 2: Who are you?
You need to briefly identify who you are, and what you are doing.

This is because people will not buy something from people they don’t know. Would you want to buy something from an anonymous person? I don’t think so, right?

Question 3: What do you want?
Ask your readers a question:

“Are you tired of wasting your hard-earned money on advertisements that doesn’t covert?”

“Would you like to get visitors to your site for free?”

Question 4: Why should you care?
“Because people are tired having to pay to advertise, and you want a free way to promote your products. What’s more – there are people of the forum right now will be viewing your free advertisements and buy from you”

Question 5: What else is in it for me?
You can create a back-link to your site with the website you are promoting, that has a high Alexa ranking. You will be able to increase the amount of traffic to your web and in turn, be able to make more sales – all these without spending money.

Question 6: What do I do know?
What do you want your readers to do now? Do you want them to click on the link and sign up for a free account now?

Let them know what you want them to do.

Writing your subject line

Your email subject line is actually very important. It is something that your readers will see before they decide to click on it to read your email or send it to the thrash can.

Do not try to sell someone a product in the subject line. They’ll send emails like these to the thrash can right away.

You should not also give away too much information in the subject line. Otherwise, they will not open up the email and read what’s in it.

Compare the following 2 subject lines:

Subject Line 1 - “(Name) why you should never give away the secrets in the subject line”

Subject Line 2 – “How many times do you make mistakes in your subject line?”

Which one is better? If you answer subject line 2, you are correct. Your subject line should make people curious and want to open up and read the email.

Personalising your email subject line

You should not put the person’s name on the subject line for the sake of using it.

Compare the following 2 subject lines:

Subject Line 1 – “(Name) – the real secrets of writing emails”

Subject Line 2 – “Hey (Name), check out these 3 secrets for writing killer emails”

If you receive 2 emails with the 2 subject lines above, which email will you open and which email will you thrash? You’ll open up the email containing the 2nd subject line and thrash the 1st right?

Why is that so? It’s because the email with the 2nd subject line sound more conversational right? You include names in subject lines to make it sound conversational. Therefore your subject line should also sound conversational - as if you are talking to the person in his / her face.

Writing subject lines like bullet points

You write subject lines just like writing bullet points – you only tell people what they’ll learn. You do not give them the actual content. This is called writing “blind subject lines”.

Let me give you an example. Use the following subject line:

“Here’s a little known secret subject line trick that explodes your results”

Instead of:

“Here’s why using blind subject lines is so important” (You’ve already let the person know in the subject line that the email is about “blind subject lines”)

Subject lines should be benefit-oriented

You should give your readers a taste of the benefit in the subject line without actually telling them how it is done.

An example of this type of subject line is as follows:
“Here’s an easy way to boost your income by 20% in just 24 hours…”

Most people will be interested to learn how to boost their income by 20% in 24 hours. Who doesn’t? People will then click on the email and read the contents.

You may also ask your reader a question in the subject line, such as:
“Do you make this mistake with X?” (X is whatever your reader is interested in – your niche market)

You should always keep your subject line relevant to your audience.

How to create an opening that make people want to read the rest of your email?

The following guidelines are how you can create an opening in your email that makes people want to read the rest of the email:

- Greet reader like how you greet your friend
- Always talk to 1 person in your email. Avoid saying something like this - “… you guys will enjoy it…”
- Write your email exactly the same way you talk to your friends.

Here’s an example of a good email opening:

“Hey (Firstname), Jun Yuan here, and I have a quick question for you. Do you actually enjoy the process of writing email promo? I don’t know about you, but I used to get so frustrated at how much work I took to create an email that actually made me money.

Have you ever felt like that? I know I did until I stumbled upon a really simple system for creating killer email promos that bring in money every single time.

And the best part is, when you use this system, the email practically write themselves! Here’s how it work…”

The above email, written in a conversational format, inspires trust from your readers.

Here’s an example of a bad email opening:

“Oh my GOD, (Firstname)! I have to tell u something QUICK before I EXPLODE! Forget everything you’ve heard about writing email promos, because I just discovered a NUCLEAR POWERED system for writing killer emails that practically suck the money right out of people’s pockets!”

Do you feel like you’ve just been shouted at after reading the email above? It is bombarded with capital lettered words and exclamation marks.

Go straight to the point

Your emails must go straight to the point. People are usually very busy and do not have the time to sit down and read each and every email they receive.

People will only read your emails if you can convince them to do so. You need to give them a reason why they should read your emails.

Do not include too much information about yourself

Read the following email:

“Hey firstname, its Jun Yuan, and WOW, am I exhausted. I just stayed up the entire nite getting my new home study course ready for you to check out. I wanted to go to the ball game last night, but I knew how important this was to your future, and so blah blah blah…”

Do you think people actually bother about your life? NO! People only care about what’s in it for them. So please, do not write too much information about yourself. People are not interested whether you are exhausted, whether you went for the ball game, etc.

Do not be too loud and pitchy

Read the following email again:

“Oh my GOD, (Firstname)! I have to tell u something QUICK before I EXPLODE! Forget everything you’ve heard about writing email promos, because I just discovered a NUCLEAR POWERED system for writing killer emails that practically suck the money right out of people’s pockets!”

Don’t you find the above email too loud and pitchy? There are also many words that are capitalized and too many “!!”. People hate to be yelled and pitched to. So please don’t do it.

You need to remember – always talk to your reader, not at your reader.

Writing body copy of your email

You should keep the content in your email body super relevant. The purpose of you sending those emails is not to inform / entertain but to ask them to click on the link to visit the website containing the item you’re selling.

Again, do not talk about your personal life in the body copy of the email. Instead of writing about how you’ve enjoyed your recent vacation, write about the vacation your reader will be taking if he / she follow the email course.

Write powerful bullet points

The number 1 rule to writing powerful bullet points is that they must be blind to be effective. The bullet points should hint at the benefits they’ll gain instead of revealing the content / secret.

An example is as follows:

Write “How to make your bullets powerful by making them blind” instead of “A simple change you can make to your bullets that triple your power”.

Another example:

Write “The single biggest mistake you should avoid when writing your email promos!” instead of “The real reason why you should never talk about your personal life in your email promos”.

When you are writing your email in a “Text Only” format, use either “-“ or “*”you’re your bullets.

If your bullet points exceed a single line, insert a space between each bullet point. That will make your bullet points easier to read.

Breaking up your email using sub-headings

People will normally scan every email before reading it. If your email is in one whole big chunk without any sub-headings, they will just close the email without reading it.

Therefore, you have to break up your email (if it is too long) with sub-headings. An example as follows:

THIS IS SUB-HEADING 2

--------------------------------------------------

Use either “*” or “-“ to make lines. Make about 50 “*” or “-“ in a row. Also, make your sub-headings using capital letters. This will make the sub-headings stand out and easier for the readers’ eyes.

To capture your reader’s attention, you may want to ask them a question (e.g. “this sounds great, but is it just another cheap ebook?”) after 2 – 3 paragraphs of text. The use of questions will help readers to re-focus.

Use of bucket brigades

One of the copywriting secrets in killer emails is to use bucket brigades, such as the following:

As a result
As I said
Oh yeah and let’s not forget
And guess what?
… etc.

An example of an email that make use of bucket brigades is as follows:

“Look, if you are sick and tired of staring at a blank computer screen… trying to figure out how to write email promos that get results, then you’ve got to give this course a shot…

why? Because you’ll make more money from each & every email promo that you send out. Oh yeah, and let’s not forget… you’ll also get to take vacations with your family & friends, while your business is making you money 24 hours a day

And guess what? Once you write your email promos one time, you can just load it into your autoresponder, and let it make u money for years to come.”

How to create a strong closing that make people want to take action right away

Before you create a close in your email, ask yourself this question – “What do you want your reader to do specifically?”

Write down a list of specific actions you want them to take, such as to forward the newsletter to 5 friends, order the product immediately to get to the members-only area, etc. You have to be specific on what you want your subscribers to do.

Next, identify the one action from the list that will make you the most money.

How to fire sales in closing

There is always an unanswered question in the back of your readers’ minds – “Why should I take action?” or “Why should I take action right now?”

Unless you give your readers a reason to act immediately, they’ll never act.

One tactic is to use scarcity – give them a specific deadline, quantity-based deadline, or combination of both.

Examples would be:

“Only 25 copies of the product left”
“Product only available for this price at 7 days”
“Free only for the first 50 customers”
“The sale usually lasts for 7 days, and the low prospect can get the product offer at the lowest possible price during the first 3 days only, and then the price goes up. 2 days later, the price goes up again, jacking up the price to a level that’s well out of reach of most people.

Your closing must remain strong, clear and sharp. Write 10 possible closing and choose the best.

Your closing must be very specific on what you want them to do. You have to be very direct and stand your ground. If you want them to click on something, tell them – “Hey, click this link right now and pick up your copy before it’s too late”.

Why use P.S.?

Most people, when they open up emails – will zoom straight into 2 things –headline and price.

Often, P.S. will be read before the body copy because it is right next to the price. They are like an exclamation point at the end of your sales message – something extra that you did not have the room to include / wasn’t appropriate in your email copy.

Effective P.S.es can push readers over the edge into buying, or take whatever action you want them to take. It actually helps to increase results.

P.S.es also helps to make your email more interesting to read, as it comes across as more personal.

Here is some of the different P.S.es you can use:

Testimonial P.S.
Testimonial P.S. is a great way to overcome someone’s objection as to whether or not the product you’re selling works in the real world. An example of a testimonial P.S. as follows:

P.S. - You don’t even have to take my word for it. Listen to what marketing expert John Smith has to say “Wow, this amazing ebook has already made me an extra $2,000 dollars this month, and I’m only on page 9! I highly recommend it”

Extra Discount P.S.
Extra discount P.S. does a great trick when you are doing a Joint Venture with someone. You’re throwing your readers some extra motivation to re-affirm their decision. An example of an Extra Discount P.S. is as follows:

P.S. - UPDATE: Wow, I have even MORE good news. I’ve just made a deal with John Smith, and he’s agreed to give you an extra 20% off the regular price if you order by midnight on Friday. Hurry up and check out the URL below before he changes his mind”

Opps – I forgot to mention something P.S.
P.S. – Oh, I forgot to mention one important thing. When you pick up your copy of John Smith’s new ebook, you’ll also get an extra bonus audio recording that is not listed anywhere on the website. It’s an unadvertised special bonus just for my readers. It’s my way of saying, “Thanks for being a loyal subscriber.” Here’s the link one more time. Go ahead and check it out right now.

Recap P.S.
This is the most common type of P.S. It contains a brief pitchy summary of your strongest message. An example of a recap P.S. is as follows:

P.S. – Remember, when you order today, you get all 8 CD’s rushed to your door, along with 3 amazing bonus reports and a transcript of the entire recording. You’ll also get a bonus DVD that will walk you through the process of setting up your first website in only 24 hours”

In summary, people normally read your P.S.es first before deciding whether or not to read your entire email.

Mistakes in email promo

Here are some of the common mistakes made by people when they did their email promo. Please avoid them.

Overuse of Personalisation
You should limit the number of times you mention the reader’s name in your emails (limit to a couple of times during email and once in subject line). Just like in a real-life conversation, you will not use a person’s name over and over again, right? It will sound really weird and creepy.

Email is too formal
You are not writing an English essay. Therefore, do not make your email too formal. Do not spend too much time correcting your grammar. Let your email sound natural, just like how you normally communicate. This will make your email come across as a real person – someone your reader can relate.

Overuse of power words
When you keep saying things like “I have to get this off my chest before I explode!”, nobody will take you seriously. Talk like a regular person, not like a carnival pitchman.

Promote 1 thing only
Promote only 1 thing in your email. If not, your reader will be confused on what you want them to do. Keep your email focused.

Not giving people specific reason to act
If you do not give people a specific reason to act, they will not act at all. It’s as simple as that. You need to give your readers a reason to act now – let them know they’re going to miss out on something if they don’t act now.

Do not talk about yourself too much
You need to focus on what’s important to your reader. You do not want your reader to, after reading the whole email, saying “So what?” After you’ve drafted your email, read them out loud and ask yourself if the email entices you are a reader.

Take Action Now

I’ve said this numerous times in my previous postings and I’ll say it again. Please do not just read the article and sit on it. You must apply and practise what you’ve learnt in order to fully benefit you.

Everything is the same - from the process of first understanding what your customer wants, to product creation to reaching out your product to your customers and finally, making them an offer that they cannot say no to you.

If you are not IT-savvy, not to worry. There are lots of freelance designers out there who can design your webpage at a very low cost (You can visit elance.com or rentacoder.com. These are 2 very good websites to get your freelance web designers).

Why online business?

There are 2 main reasons – mainly the “push” and “pull” factors.

“Push” factors:

1. Online business will bring you multiple streams of “passive” income.
“Passive” income means income you receive every month without working physically for it. You run your online business on an autopilot and it generates a substantial amount of income for you every month. “Active” income, however, is the income you receive from your full/part time job – if you do not go to work, you will not get paid. It’s as simple as that.

2. Online business can help you create a sense of living
You see – nothing is secure today. Your job security and monthly salary may be affected by factors such as economic crisis, disease outbreak, etc. Wouldn’t you want to generate alternate stream of income so that, when situations like this really happen, you have something to fall back on?

3. You are the boss in your online business
For those who hate their job, or their bosses, or both, wouldn’t you start your own business and be your own boss instead? When you are boss, you have total control in everything you do in your business.

4. You’ll have surplus money for investment

Finding your niche market

There are 1,001 areas which you can write about - from business to IT to biomedical science to books to sports to entertainment, etc. Choose the area which you are most familiar in to write about (if you choose an area which you are not familiar, you’ll find yourself “stuck” at a certain point, when you run out of ideas).

Let’s say you are interested in music. You want to write about music. Music itself is very broad topic. Under music – there are many categories of music – rock, pop, jazz, classical, contemporary, etc. Under each category of music you have different singers. There are also many different types of musical instruments – guitar, piano, violin, drums, keyboard, etc. Under each type of music instrument you have different brands, prices, quality, etc. These are called sub-niches. Music itself is the niche.

In order to make money online, you have to write articles on a particular sub-niche. You have to zoom in to a particular group of people whom you want to attract. However, before you get started on a particular sub-niche, you have to make sure there is a demand on the topic you are writing about. You may like to go to this site called niche.classic.com to find out the statistics on how many people are searching for the topic you are going to writing about. inventory.overture.com is another good site for the same purpose. You can also do a search on the topic you are going to write about in Google.

You can also ask potential site visitors / customers what they want to know about the topic you are going to write about – run an “Ask” campaign. Ask them what they want, and cater to their demands. That way, you’ll be able to drive traffic to your website once it is up.

Is my niche profitable?

To find out whether your niche is a profitable one, do a search on Google. Let’s say, if you have a website sharing with people information about guitars, you can do a search on Google by typing in - guitar “affiliate programs”. Google will list out for you all the sites on guitar affiliate programs. Join these programs as an affiliate (it’s free to join) and advertise them on your web. You will earn commission whenever people click on your affiliate links to purchase the products.

Monetization before targeting market?

Many people have this mis-conception of looking into monetization first before targeting the market. This is strongly not recommended. The reason is because by doing you, you are simply doing opportunity hopping. By doing so, you’ll never be able to profit in the long run. Therefore, it is very important to stay focussed on a particular topic. Choose your topic and stay focussed on that. It will certainly benefit you in the long run.

Why are there no click-throughs (people who purchase products from you through your affiliate link) even though I have identified a niche market?

Remember, when you create a website about a particular niche market, you are targeting your articles to your potential customers. Therefore, it is very important to write your articles based on what they want, and not what you want.

People, before they buy something, will want to know how the product will benefit them, how it can help make their life better, how it can avoid their pains and enhance their pleasure, etc. That’s human nature. I am sure when you go out and purchase something, you’ll choose a product that will best benefit you, am I right? It’s as simple as that. Therefore, you have to give your potential customers valuable content in your articles. You have to show them how the product can help solve their problems.

You may also want to include testimonials – people are more likely to purchase the product if they read from others that it is good. If you can have audio and video testimonials, that’s even better, because people can not only just read, but to be able to listen and see how the product has benefited others. Videos are especially good because not only can they hear what they say, but they can also see their non-verbal communications, their facial expressions, whether they are speaking from their heart or reading from the text.

What’s the fastest and cheapest way to reach out to the market?

The quickest way is through pay-per-click campaign (such as use of Google Adwords), or you can make use of social community (such as MindSpace, MyWebTalk, DirectMatches, etc.)

Alternatively, you can be part of a big “give-away” program. Give products to people for free in return for their contact information (usually name and email address). By doing so, you can build up your database of potential customers and can email them on any products and services you are offering.

What’s the start-up cost of doing an Internet business?

Start-up cost will include domain name registration, hosting, research, design, etc. You may also want to invest some money (about $10 - $15) on pay per click (PPC) campaigns on Google – in PPC campaigns, Google will advertise your products on the Google Search Engine itself, as well as in other people’s websites.

Whenever someone clicks on the link to visit your product page, you’ll have to pay Google a certain amount of money (ranging from a few cents to a few dollars – you decide the amount). Before you invest in PPC campaigns, make sure the product you are selling is not priced too low. Otherwise, your ability to advertise will be very low as well (I’m sure you won’t want to pay $10 for advertisements when your product is selling for only $5, right?)

Building up your customer base and selling your products to them

In order for you to be successful in Internet Marketing, you have to first build your own list of potential customers (by giving away free products). By building up your pool of potential customers is not enough – you have to establish enough relation with them, by giving them adequate information (if you give too much information, people will think you’re a pest) on what they need. Therefore, you need to create products based on what they are looking for.

Treat all your potential customers with respect and honour them. DO NOT violate their trust in you. The first time you trick your potential customers by not delivering, it will be very difficult to get them to trust you again.

Everything circles around trust and relationship.

Learning from people who has done it before

The good news about Internet Marketing is – you need not re-invent the wheel. There is a certain way to become successful in Internet Marketing. All you need to do is to find out - ask the Internet Marketing gurus, they’ll tell you how to go about doing it. Keep asking them questions, learn from them. Learn from their experiences.

Information Sharing Session during Stuart's Subscriber's Nite

I went for Stuart Tan’s Chinese New Year Subscriber’s Nite yesterday. It was really a very good information sharing session. I met up with people who are also into Internet Marketing and we shared some pointers. Learning is all about sharing pointers with one another, which is what this posting is about – to share with you what I’ve learnt last evening.

Stuart invited 2 online marketing gurus to the session – Frank (fjpmarketing.com) and Ben (evenmorestuff.com) to share their experiences, as well as some tips on selling online.

Finding your sub-niches

Everybody has been saying that in order to be able to make money online, you have to target a particular niche market.

However, there are now so many people selling in any niche market. Take the topic “Golf” for example. Do a search on Google. There are so many sites on it – ranging from golf balls to golf shoes to golf clubs to golf t-shirts to golf bags to golf caps, etc. There are also sites on golf for beginners, golf for intermediates, golf for professionals, how to play like Tiger Woods, etc. There are 1001 sub-topics on the word “Golf” itself. These are sub-niches. Narrow down your content to these sub-niches. Chances are you’ll find yourself getting better sales compared to when you are writing content on a general topic like “Golf”.

Ben’s model of selling

Ben writes reports on a particular topic and gives them away in eBay for free. He also allows people to freely distribute or re-sell these reports. So how does he make money by writing these reports? You see, in each of his reports, not only does it contain information about a certain topic, such as golf, it also contain affiliate links to golf products – such as golf hats, golf balls, golf shoes, etc. He’ll receive commission when people click on the affiliate links to purchase the products.

In order to download his report, you will have to first access his webpage, which will contain some information about the report, followed by a box asking you to fill in your name and email address. You will then be directed to a page where you can download the report. The contact information you entered will be captured into Ben’s database of potential customers, which will allow him to follow-up on the products he is selling, and also to introduce new products.

So how does Ben capture the contact information of other readers of his report, if they did not download directly from his website, but receive it from their friends?

What Ben does is that he’ll write a message “To download the most updated version of this report, please visit my website” at the very first page of his report. People will normally want to read the most updated version (that’s human nature) of the report. They’ll click on the link to go to Ben’s website and download it. However, before they can download the report, they have to provide their name and email address. Bingo! Their contact information is now being added to Ben’s database of potential customers.

Selling as affiliates

There are a whole range of products where you can sell as affiliate in Clickbank (www.clickbank.com) and Commision Junction (www.cj.com).

Clickbank sells mostly digital products (e.g. ebooks, videos, audio programs, etc), while Commission Junction sells mostly physical products (e.g. vitamin tablets, golf apparels, watches, etc). When you sell a certain product as an affiliate, the merchant will give you a unique link (which is your affiliate link), that identifies you uniquely. When the buyer clicks on your affiliate link to purchase the product, they will credit the commission to your account.

DO NOT feel discouraged and harbour thoughts of giving up if you did not manage to get as many people to join you right from the start.

Tell yourself “YOU CAN DO IT !” instead. There are lots of different ways and means you can promote your product on the Internet. The BEST deal is that – most of them are FREE !

Once you have established the relationship between yourself and your potential customers, money will come eventually. It’s a natural process. So be patient.

Take Action TODAY !

I would like to share with you some interesting things I’ve learnt from this book titled “Why We Want You to be Rich” by Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki.

I’m sure you know who these 2 great people are, right ? For the benefit of those who are not sure who they are, let me do a brief introduction – Donald Trump is the host for “The Apprentice” and also the founder of the “Trump” corporation. Robert Kiyosaki is the author of “Rich Dad” Books. One good book written by him is “Rich Dad Poor Dad”. I’m sure most of you have hear of or seen this book somewhere right ? Both of them are very good investment gurus.

90/10 Rule of Money

One of things I like to share with you from their book is the 90/10 rule of money.

Robert Kiyosaki shared in the book that in the game of money, 10% of the players will earn 90% of the money while the other 90% will share the remaining 10%.

I find what he said to be very meaningful. After digesting what Robert Kiyosaki has written, I quickly asked myself “Which group do I want belong to ?”

Of course everyone will say you want to be one of the 10% who earn 90% of the money. Who in the right frame of mind will say he / she want to be one of the remaining 90%, right ?.

Having said that, I would like to emphasise that by simply answering that question is not enough. You have to work towards it, which means you have to have an aim, have a goal, have a target you want to achieve. Once you have set your aim / goal / target, develop your plan to WORK TOWARDS IT ! Even if it means sacrificing your favourite TV programmes, even if it means having to sacrifice some sleeping time everyday.

In order to achieve my goal, I have set aside at least 1 hour everyday to do things that will drive me towards being one of the 10% earning 90% of the money. No matter how busy I am, I will try to squeeze some time out. I really enjoy the 1 hour I’m spending everyday and seeing myself moving towards my goal. Once you start seeing money beginning to roll in, you’ll definitely find that the sacrifices are worth it.

I would like you to spend a few minutes (3 –5 minutes) to think your goal. Ask yourself these 2 questions :

“What do I want to achieve in life ?” and

“What sacrifices am I willing to make to achieve my goal ?”

Reading is nothing without actions

YES !! I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE SENTENCE !

Let us try a simple exercise.

Take out a copy of today’s paper. Randomly choose and read an article that’s about half a page long.

5 – 10 minutes later, try to recall the contents of the article you have read 5 – 10 minutes ago. How much can you recall ? I would say that most likely, you’ll have no problem recalling you will be about 70 – 80% of it.

Try to recall the contents of that SAME article an hour later. How much can you recall now ? I would say that you are now only be able to recall about 45 – 50% of it.

Try to recall the contents of that SAME article the next morning. How much can you recall now ? I dare say that most of you can only recall about 5 – 10% of it. Some of you may only be able to recall the title of the article !

Don’t just read what I’ve written. Try this exercise out.

The moral of the story is, you will gain nothing by reading alone. You have to take action to apply what you have read. In the book “Why We Want You to be Rich”, I came across a very interesting table (source : Cone of Learning adapted from Dale, 1969) and would like to share with all of you :

It is proven that by reading alone, you can only remember 10% . However, if you applied what you have read, you can remember 90%.

I hope that all of you, after reading my article, will start applying what you have read either in your money making journey or in your daily life, instead of just simply reading and forget about it.

Uncover the Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires

To tell you the truth, I was NEVER interested in subjects related to business in the past. That was before I read the book “Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires” by Adam Khoo. “Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires” was in fact the FIRST business-related book I read my entire life. I am not trying to promote anything here but this book really made an impact on me. After reading the book, it led me to ONE conclusion, and that is, it is POSSIBLE for ALL of us to become MILLIONAIRES, if we set our mind to become one.

For those of you who do not know who Adam Khoo is, let me do a brief introduction about him – Adam Khoo is the founder of “Adam Khoo Learning Technologies Group”, Singapore’s most prominent and prestigious training company, running leading personal-development programmes for students, professionals, executives and business owners. Some of his corporate clients include Tupperware, American International Insurance, Prudential, Lux Asia, Rolls Royce Marine and many more. Adam Khoo attained the millionaire status by the age of 26 and is a multi-millionaire today.

Today, I’ll like to share with you some of the things I read from “Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires” which really inspired me.

Possibility of becoming a millionaire

Adam shared with us that it is POSSIBLE for us to become millionaires. Many people have this perception that it is much easier to become millionaires in the past. However, the truth is there are much more millionaires now compared to the past. Therefore, it is today that YOU TOO can become a millionaire !

Reading

One of the many things I learnt from the “Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires” was the importance of reading. If you are completely new to the topic of Internet Marketing, or even if you want to find out more on how to make money on the Internet, I would like to strongly urge you to grab a copy of “Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires”. “Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires” give us a very good overview on Internet Marketing to help us get started.

I could not have stressed the importance of reading. We have to constantly read to improve ourselves, to learn new paradigms, to learn new ways to make money, etc.

To be frank with you, before I read Adam’s book, I only managed to finish reading at most 1 or 2 books every year !

However, after reading “Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires”, I became obsessed with reading, especially on books teaching us how to make money, how to improve our attitude (Having the right attitude is important to help us focus our mind to make money), etc.

Whenever I step into a shopping centre, the first thing I’ll look out for is the bookshop. I’ll spend half of my time in the shopping centre in that bookshop to look around for any new business-related and self-improvement books. I will not hesitate to buy the book if I find it interesting. Many people can spend hundreds of dollars buying luxuries, such as mobile phones, clothes, DVDs, CDs, etc. without even thinking twice ! However, when it comes to buying books, they will tend to hesitate whether to buy or not. They’ll think over and over again. I really don’t understand why. Books are actually assets. Why do I call them assets ? Because books, especially those about money making or self-improvement, teaches us something, and we can apply what we have learnt in the books to make even more money than we actually can ! That’s why I always treat books as assets.

However, things like mobile phones, clothes, video games, electronic equipment, etc. are actually liabilities, because these things NEVER generate any profits for you. These things only depreciate in value as time goes on.

For your information, I now make it a point to read AT LEAST 1 book every month. That way, I make sure I’ll learn something new, which I can apply and help make even more money every month.

I would like to share with you one more point about reading – there is no point reading so many books if we do not take action to apply the knowledge we learnt from them. It will be a complete waste of time to only read and not apply what we’ve learnt from the books.

Game of Money

Treat money making as if you are playing a game. Money making is actually a very fun game to play – BUT only if you know the rules of the game. If you know the rules of the game, you will be able to generate a substantial amount of income with ease.

Look at people like Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Jack Welch. Why are they able to make so much money ? The answer is very simple – it is because they know how to play the game of money. Have you ever wondered why these millionaires are still thinking of ways and means to make money even though they are already millionaires ? The reason is because they simply love the game of money ! They love it so much that they are constantly thinking of ways and means to make even more money ! These people know the rules of the game to help them make lots of money. People who do not know the rules of the game will definitely end up losing money, and even become backrupts.

Therefore, it is very important you know the rules of the game. The “Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires” is a very good book that teaches you the rules of the game of money - how to play the game of making money.

Managing your wealth

Besides learning how to make money, you need to also know how to protect your wealth. Let me ask you a question – Do you keep track the amount of money you save every month ?” I am quite sure many of us do not.

Our mentality to saving money is to spend first and save whatever that’s left. How many of you will put aside the amount of money you like to save every month before spending the rest ?

My next question is – do you keep track of how you spent your money ? What do you spend your money on ?

Just to side-track a bit – I recently listened to a presentation on how the poor, the middle class and the rich spend their money and would like to share with you what he said.

He said the first group of people – the poor, will spend whatever money they have buying stuff. What is stuff ? Stuff is simply things that occupy space in your house. They are often things you DO NOT really need, things you seldom use. This stuff generates no income for you.

The second group of people – the middle class, will spend their money on things like cars, houses, boats, etc. They also spend their money on paying their credit card bills. You may ask me – isn’t house an asset ? A house is only an asset IF you manage to make a profit after selling it. If selling your house will not bring you any profit, it is considered a liability.

The third group of people – the rich, will invest their money in shares, bonds, fixed deposits, businesses, education, etc. They spend their money on things that will help generate even more money for them. They spend their money on things that will earn them a passive income (passive income is any income you obtain that is not from your main source of income. One good example of passive income is the dividend or interest you receive from your investments).

Let me give you an example of how the rich spend their money. I’m sure you heard about Warren Buffet (For the benefit of those who don’t, he is an investment guru who makes millions through investing and is now the 2nd richest man in the world).

Warren Buffet started making money when he was very young. One of his every first business was to setup pinball machines in barber shops. He started off this business by buying 1 pinball machine and putting it in 1 barber shop. He used the money generated from that pinball machine to buy another pinball machine and put in another barber shop, and so on. That was how he expanded his so-called “business” then. The pinball machine was an asset to Warren Buffet, because it generated an income for him.

I want to bring your attention to the following portion of the article :

NO LAVISH LIFESTYLE
While her business has made her a millionaire, she said that she is not exactly enjoying an extravagant lifestyle because she re-invests all her money into the business.

As you can see from the above, she did not make use of her money to buy stuff, she did not spend it lavishly, but, she re-invested all her money into the business. This is the mindset of all millionaires.

Before I read “Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires”, I was like most of you. I did not keep track of my expenditures. I had no idea where I spent my money on.

After reading the book, I started to keep track of WHERE and HOW I spent my money, HOW much I spent, as well as HOW much I save per month. To help me answer these questions, I created the following list every month to keep track of my expenditures and savings :

The above list enabled me to find answers to questions such as “Where did I spend my money on ?”, “How much money did I spend ?”, “How much do I actually save monthly ?”, “In which area did I spend the most amount of money on ?”, etc. I am now able to better keep track of my expenditures and savings.

I would like to encourage all of you to have your own list to keep track of your expenditures and savings. You’ll be surprised by the amount of money you spent every month buying “stuff”. =)

Money making on the Internet

The Internet is a very powerful tool. We use the Internet to communicate with friends (through emails, instant messaging, forums), to do research (the Internet is very rich in information), to keep in touch with what’s happening around the world, etc.

If you are not aware, today, there are lots of people who make use of the Internet to generate income. How many of you here have a website or blog ? For those of you who have, do you know you can generate income from your website or blog through advertising (such as Google Adsense – where Google will place advertisements on your web. You make money when visitors on your web click on those advertisements) ?

Advertisements by Google will look like the following :

In “Think Rich, Grow Rich”, I will be showing you how to set up a Google Adsense account and start making money on your website or blogs. Watch out for that.

Besides making money through advertising, you can make use of your website or blog to help sell other people’s products – known as Affiliate Marketing.

- You need not find a space to physically store the products you are selling, to provide shipping or after-sales support (The company selling the products will take care of all these).

- You can reach out to potential customers worldwide round the clock (In my previous posting on “Statistics on Number of Internet Users”, you can potential reach out to over 6 billion people around the world).
- It costs nothing, or sometimes a very minimal cost, to be an affiliate marketer.
- There is very minimal risk. If something you are selling is not making money, you can change the products you want to sell within minutes.

There are some people who set up websites just to help companies sell their products as an affiliate marketer. Some of them have generated a substantial amount of income by doing just that !

Install “Good” or “Bad” Softwares ? The Choice is Yours !

I was in McDonalds reading Stephen R. Covey’s “The 8th Habit” and a topic suddenly struck my mind (and I’ll like to share with you about it) - our brain works like the hard disk of a computer in that we can choose the “programs” we like to “install” in our brain, just like we can choose the software to install in our computer.

I’m sure all of you know what kind of programs we install in our computer – programs such as the Windows Operating System, Word processing software, Database software, Computer games, etc.

How about the types of “programs” we install in our brain ? We can install “programs” relating to values, behaviours, perception in our brain. How do we install these so-called “programs” on values, behaviours and perception ? We install these “programs” through the books and magazines we read, news we gather from newspapers, radio and television, as well as information we get through communicating with peers. We have the choice to choose the “programs” we want to install in our brains (that’s why our human brain is so powerful).

We can choose to “program” our brain to think like millionaires such as Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Jack Welch by reading books and learning about how these people think and work. Through reading, we are in a way “installing” these “programs” in our brain, which will allow us to model the behaviours of these millionaires.

We can also choose to “program” our brain to achieve certain goals – such as committing at least one hour everyday to explore on the ways and means to make money on the Internet. If we tell ourselves that we will be able to commit this amount of time, we certain will be able to.

Besides many good “programs” that are available, there are also lots of bad “programs” that we must avoid “installing” into our brain, just as we install antivirus, anti-spyware programs in our computers to prevent viruses, spywares being installed into our computer. Examples of “bad” programs include negative thinking, bad influence from peers, sense of helplessness and hopelessness that we harvest in our brain, just to name a few. If we keep thinking we are hopeless, or think that there’s nothing we can do to improve our lives, or have this feeling that we are too tired to commit any time for money-making activities, these bad “programs” will actually be “installed” in our brain sub-consciously (just as how virus and spywares get installed in our computer without our knowledge), and we will always end up as failures.

You have the choice on the “programs” you wish to “install” in your brain. There are lots of good “programs” available that you want to grab a copy – such as “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” and “The 360 Degree Leader”. These are examples of good “softwares” you should install in your brain.

“Installing” these good “programs” is a good first step to getting yourself prepared in your journey to making money on the Internet. Trust me. They’ll definitely help.

Determination to Succeed

To start off, let me share with you my personal experience – making money on the Internet is not easy, especially when you are new to it. There are lots of things that need to be done before diving into the world of making money on the Internet – such as doing lots of research and reading up to make sure I know the complete picture about making money on the Internet, planning on strategies I want to take to make money on the Internet, putting my plans into actions, review the results and change my strategy, if not successful. All these take time, and I mean lots of time, and not forgetting determination and self-discipline.

I am not trying to scare you off with that. Let me tell you something – attaining success is NEVER easy. Ask the entrepreneurs, ask people who are successful. They will definitely tell you that they have put in a lot of hard work before they managed to smell success.

I am sure you do encounter problems in life – either in school, at work, between friends and family members, etc.

Let me ask you a question - what do you do when you encounter problems in life ? Do you sit down and just whine and complaint or do you think of how to solve the problem ?

For me, I will sit down and review the whole situation and find out exactly what went wrong. I will then think of possible solutions I can take to solve the problems. Not only that, I will also talk to friends and people I’m comfortable with to seek their opinions, as two brains are always better than one. How about you ?

Always remember this - One should NEVER give up when encountered problems. If you give up at the slightest obstacle, you will NEVER succeed. Trust me. You never will. The reason is because in order to succeed, you need to get past numerous obstacles.

The same goes for doing an online Internet business. You will definitely meet obstacles in some stage. Do not give up. Keep trying and you’ll definitely succeed.

Determination to succeed

Before we start off on our money making journey, let us spend a minute or two to look at the following picture :

Picture yourself at the start of the winding road.

You are now going to travel from one end of the road to the other (the destination). Now, focus on the word “Destination” and ask yourself this question - “What is my goal ?” For me, I want to understand and model how millionaires think and act, and also try to unveil as many money -making opportunities on the Internet as possible, and share with all of you (through this blog), as well as making as much money as possible on the Internet.

That is my aim, and so here I am, blogging about my adventures and sharing with you whatever I have on online Internet marketing.

To achieve my aim, I have to constantly enrich myself by reading books as well as resources on the Internet, digest and translate them into lay-man terms so that it is understandable for everyone.

You may be asking me this – “This blog is supposed to be on ways to get rich. So far you have not posted anything on how exactly can we make money on the Internet.”

Yes, I have yet to post anything on how to make money on the Internet for a simple reason – because I want to get all of you in the right frame of mind first. Only with a correct attitude and a right frame of mind, we will be able to move in the correct direction and make all the correct decisions. I always believe in the saying “Attitude determines Altitude”.

The going will be tough, but always tell yourself this – “I WILL DEFINITELY SUCCEEED.” Keep going. DO NOT GIVE UP.

Let me give you an example. Let’s say you have participated in a 5 km race. The race has just started. You feel energetic, bursting with energy and full of zest, and you managed to overtake lots of runners. However, half-way through the race, when your energy start to run out, you’ll feel mentally and physically tired and have a strong urge to stop. At that point in time, do you feel like stopping ? Many of us would.

Whether you’ll be able to finish the race will depend on what you tell you brain.

If you keep telling yourself “I’m going to die if I don’t stop.”, “I’m never going to make it to the finishing point”, “I am so tired. I feel like quitting”, I can tell you that you’ll never be able to finish the race. You’ll eventually give up.

However, if you tell yourself “I will definitely reach the ending point !”, “I can do it !”, “I am NOT going to give up !”, you will be able to find the energy within you to continue running and finish the race.

What I’m trying to tell you is this – whether we succeed or not, it is all in our mindset. If we program our mind telling it to continue moving towards our goal despite of setbacks or obstacles, we WILL definitely succeed.

Real-life Success Stories

In my last posting, I said it was possible to improvise someone else’s business and turn it into your own and start making money. I have also talked about how someone can turn simple ideas they have in mind into a money making opportunities.

Now, I like to share with you some real-life stories of ordinary people who tapped on other people’s business or simple ideas they have and turn them into money-spinning businesses :

I’m sure everybody knows about the McDonalds fast food restaurant. Do you know the history behind it ? Here goes – the present chairman, Ray Kroc, was not the creator of the famous McDonalds restaurant. The very first McDonalds restaurant was created by Dick and Mac McDonald in a very small shop in California. The McDonalds restaurant sold very high quality burgers at a very cheap price.

However, the McDonald brothers did not see the potential of the restaurant and it was bought over by Ray Kroc, who saw the potential of this business, for only $2.7million.

He franchised the business worldwide, and within a short period of 6 years, there were about 20,000 franchised outlets worldwide, earning Ray Kroc millions of dollars in royalties !

Many of us thought that the very first Operating System, the Microsoft DOS (Disk Operating System), was created by Bill Gates (the founder of Microsoft). The truth is that Bill Gates did not create Microsoft DOS, but he purchased the Operating System called “QDOS” (what MS-DOS was based on) from Seattle Computer Products for a mere sum of $50,000. He then generated billions of dollars in revenue by licensing non-exclusive rights of the software to IBM and their clone manufacturers.

The “Chicken Soup” inspirational books you see in bookshops are not written by Jack Canfield and Mark Hansen. The stories in those inspirational books were written by hundreds of contributing writers. What Jack Canfield and Mark Hansen did was to compile the stories into “Chicken Soup” books, and guess what ? It managed to fetch them over $160 million by publishing and selling these books worldwide !

Richard Branson found this business by chance when he was vacationing in Beef Island (part of Virgin Islands) with his wife. He and his wife were stranded in the airport when the local Puerto Rican flight got cancelled.

When caught up in situations like this, most people will either hang around the airport waiting for things to happen or lodge complaints with the authorities. Richard Branson, unlike most people, saw this problem as an opportunity.

What he did was that he made calls to aircraft charter companies and managed to charter a private plane for $2,000. He also borrowed a blackboard and wrote the following – “Virgin Airways $39 Single Flight to Puerto Rico”, offering flights to other passengers who were also stranded at the airport. He managed to sell EVERY SINGLE seat within an hour, and even managed to make a profit from offering the flight ! Amazing isn’t it ?

When he got back, the thought about the comments of one happy passenger who said “Virgin Airways isn’t too bad – smarten up the service a little and you could be in business.”

This marked the birth of Virgin Airways and today, it is a global budget airline and one of the most profitable in the world !

After reading these stories, it only made me realise one thing, and that is, it is POSSIBLE for EVERYONE to be rich - only if you believe you CAN.

Coming back to my topic on New Year Resolution. Do you have any new year resolutions in 2007 ? Have you set any goals you want to achieve in 2007 ? If you have not, perhaps you’ll like to spend a few minutes to think about what you want to achieve this year.

Goal setting is very important. It gives one a sense of direction. It will serve to drive someone to work towards the goal. Not having goals will leave a person directionless. People who do not have goals will find themselves not achieving anything come the end of the year. When they look back on what they have achieved throughout the year on 31 December 2007, they find that they’ve wasted yet another year achieving nothing.

My Goals

I’ll start the ball rolling by sharing with you my goals for 2007. This year, I aim to uncover more money making avenues on the Internet and share with you on my blog. I also want to earn my first $1,000 on the Internet (I have only just started off venturing on ways and means on how to make money on the Internet, so I think $1,000 is a more realistic aim for me to achieve for now. Of course, I’ll set another target as soon as I manage to hit this target I’ve set).

Simply by having a goal without steps to achieving it is useless. My steps to achievingmy goals are as follows : to allow as many people as possible benefit from my postings, I need to make my blog known to as many people as possible. In order to do so, I will advertise my blog on search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Altavista, etc. I will also put up advertisements on notice boards, etc. Most importantly, I will need the support of all of you to help spread the word about this website.

This year, I will be putting up at least 1 article every week in my blog (so check back on my blog often in order not to miss out anything). To be able to enrich you with interesting materials, I’ll be spending even more time this year doing more research and reading, as well as trying out new online money making techniques and share with you my personal experiences. If you have any interesting articles and would like to share with everyone here, please send the article to me at ljunyuan@msn.com.

This is my goal for 2007. At the end of 2007, I’ll use this posting as a benchmark to evaluate myself – in terms of how much have I achieved my goals set, and to what extent have I achieved them.

Number of Potential Customers Your Online Business Can Reach Out

I would like to share with you some interesting information.

The statistics on the number of Internet users today are as follows (Updated on 27 Nov 2006, from www.internetworldstats.com) :

From the above table, you can see that the world now has over 1 BILLION Internet users, and this figure is still increasing.

What does this mean ? This means that your Internet business can reach out to over 1 billion potential customers around the world ! That’s tonnes more than the amount of people you can reach in a traditional business, where you can only reach out to people within your own country. Unlike traditional businesses, your Internet business can operate round the clock. This means you can even make money when you are sleeping, or relaxing outside with your friends and family members !

How much can we earn ?

Let’s do a simple calculation. Imagine you set yourself a target of making JUST $1 from every person on the Internet every month. How much can you possibly make every month on the Internet ? OVER $1 BILLION DOLLARS ! (I’m not lying about this – the stats above say everything).

Ok. I know that it is impossible to get every person on the Internet to purchase from you, as each of us has different interests. But, lets think of it this way – if we aim to get JUST 5% of the WHOLE Internet population to make purchase from you every month, and you get to earn $1 for every purchase. How much will you be able to earn every month ? Let me take out my calculator and do the calculations :

5% out of 1,076,203,987 Internet users – that will be about 53,810,199 Internet users purchasing from your web per month.

With that, you can potentially make $53 million per month !

You may be asking me if it is possible to have such high volume of business. My answer is this – “YES ! IT IS ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE !”

Does this excite you ? It certainly does excite me ! So let’s get started !

What can I sell on the Internet ?

The first thing you probably ask yourself is “What can I sell on the Internet ?” Well, you can sell almost ANYTHING on the Internet – from books, clothing, DVDs, electronic products (whole range of products such as computers, hi-fi set, laptops, mobile phones, mp3 & mp4 players, television), food, furniture, magazines, music CDs, recipes, stationeries, watches, and many more. You can sell practically ANYTHING you have in mind on the Internet.

Some of you may tell me this - “I have cracked my brains out to think of what I can possibly sell but I cannot think of anything !!”

Don’t be frustrated. Because on the Internet, you do not necessary have to sell physical products. You can also sell non-physical products such as ideas that you have in your head.

What do I mean by this ? This simply means that you can sell your knowledge and experience – some of you may be experts in building a Personal Computer from scratch. You can write an e-book on “Step-by-Steps to Setting up a Personal Computer”. Some of you may be very good in fitness, and you realise that there is a huge demand for books on how to keep fit in this busy society of ours. You can write an e-book to teach people how to exercise and keep yourself fit in say, 10 minutes a day ? (I am sure everybody will have at least 10 minutes of free time in a day.) You may be an expert in vehicle maintenance. You can write an e-book about 101 steps to taking care of your vehicle. The list goes on and on and on… The most amazing thing about selling an idea is that it is TOTALLY FREE ! You need NOT pay for your own ideas. And the best thing about it is that you can get paid for your ideas ! Simply by penning them down into an e-book and sell them online. BINGO ! Money will start coming in before you even know it !

Even if you do not have any business ideas, don’t worry. You can always look to improvise someone else’s ideas and turn them into yours, and start making money on the improvised idea. In my next posting, I’ll be sharing with you real-life stories on how people improvise someone else’s idea and turn them into their own business.

US$10 Investment Generated US$2.5 Million in Revenues

I just read an article in “The New Paper” (“The New Paper” is a Singapore newspaper) about a lady who, started off with less than US$10 of capital, is now making US$2.5 million. I would like to share this article with all of you :

3-D Babe Turns $15 (US$10) into $4M (US$2.5million) – by Eugene Wee, December 11, 2006

WEARING a spaghetti-strap top, with her flowing hair tied in a ponytail, Anshe Chung looks more like a model rather than a real estate mogul.

A millionaire who started with a capital of less than US$10 ($15), she develops properties that she either sells or rents to clients all over the world.

Her latest development is called Plush Market, a high-tech multi-purpose building situated next to a beach.

During a press tour, she reveals: 'This will become an office and meeting tower for company and citizen meetings, press conferences, and demonstrations.'

Earlier, Anshe, who has appeared on the cover of BusinessWeek magazine, hosted a press conference to announce that her business had made her her first million.

You might think that making US$1 million dealing in real estate is no big deal, but Anshe's case is special - she's not a real person. She exists only in the virtual world of Second Life, a 3-D online computer game environment where people from all over the globe join to socialise, hang out and do business. The properties she develops are virtual as well.

But the money she makes for her creator, China-born teacher Ailin Graef, is very real. The Financial Times estimates that her virtual business generates US$2.5 m ($4m) in real-world annual revenues.

Mrs Graef was born in Hubei, China, but moved to Germany in the mid-1990s with her husband, Guntram, to teach languages.

She started creating her digital empire when she joined the Second Life world in 2004 as Anshe Chung, after paying US$9.95 as a sign-up fee.

At first, the avid player of online games was happy to just wander the virtual world making friends.

TUTORING PLAYERS

Soon, she started to earn extra cash by 'tutoring' novice Second Life players in the finer points of virtual living.

She also put her computer skills to work by creating animation programmes that allow avatars - the 3-D characters in the virtual world - to do special movements like dance or stand on their heads.

Then, she set up a virtual shop and sold these animations to others for Linden Dollars (L$), the currency of Second Life. Linden Dollars are convertible to US dollars at the rate of about L$270 to US$1.

She soon expanded her creations to include custom-designed virtual buildings, landscapes and even entire islands.

Mrs Graef, who hosted a press conference inside a virtual Chinese teahouse in Second Life, said: 'I must admit that at first, I thought it was just an interesting experiment with a small community. At some stage, something special happened...Things became very real here - friendships, doing things together with others, 'living' here and, well, doing business.'

The first sign that her small business could become a big one was when she was not only able to send part of her earnings to her parents in China, but also have enough left over to help support a poor boy in the Philippines, whom she met through a church organisation.

That was when she said she realised that her entrepreneurial activities in the virtual world could reap her real-world profits.

So, together with her husband, she set up Anshe Chung Studios, a real-life design company that buys virtual real estate in Second Life, then builds houses, offices, recreational facilities on them before renting or selling them to others in the virtual world.

Business became so brisk that she opened a branch office in Wuhan, China, earlier this year. Today, her company has 25 employees, a number she hopes will double in the near future.

Mrs Graef declined to reveal the identities of her virtual real estate clients, but said they included individuals, academic institutions and corporations.

'Last night we rented 12 (plots) to a major TV station,' she said. 'We also have real-life billionaires as clients who live on our lands.' At last count, she reckons her avatar owns about 550 'regions', or plots of virtual land, in the Second Life world.

NO LAVISH LIFESTYLE

While her business has made her a millionaire, she said that she is not exactly enjoying an extravagant lifestyle because she re-invests all her money into the business.

Her company also plans to sponsor non-profit organisations that hold events in the Second Life world. 'At the moment, the focus is more on Second Life and to support the non-profit groups there.'

She also stresses that the millionaire in question isn't her, but Anshe, explaining that she prefers to keep her real-world life separate from the activities of her virtual alter ego.

And Anshe clarified this during the press conference too, saying: 'All the assets are inside Second Life. It is not money that my creator has put in her bank account.'

But when pressed, Anshe admitted if she were to liquidate all her virtual assets, Mrs Graef would be an instant millionaire.

Toyota, adidas set up virtual shops

SECOND Life started in 2003 as a 3-D virtual world for gamers to 'hang out'. But since then, it has turned into a bustling community of over 1.8 million 'residents' with a bona fide economy and currency of its own.

Apart from property, players in Second Life buy and sell items like virtual clothes, furniture, gadgets and musical instruments, with an estimated US$500,000 changing hands daily.

Global news agency Reuters even has a website dedicated to Second Life, with a reporter living in and 'reporting' from the virtual world.

The website also features a chart that monitors the commerce going on and shows the latest exchange rate between Linden Dollars and the US dollar.

The popularity of this online game has drawn some of the world's biggest companies to set up shop in the virtual world.

For example, car maker Toyota, computer seller Dell, and sports apparel company Adidas have virtual outlets in Second Life.
Many residents also make use of the Second Life world for educational purposes.

So a professor in Toronto and students in Boston can log into Second Life and meet their virtual selves to conduct lessons.

Ms Catherine Smith, a spokesman at Linden Lab, the San Francisco-based firm that created Second Life, said that the number of things you can do in the virtual world could make it more than just a game in the future.

Lessons learnt from article

The article above proved to us that it is indeed possible for anyone of us to become millionaires.

Mrs Graef only invested US$10, and she is now a millionaire. This proves only one thing – you need not spend lots of money upfront to start up your own business, and become a millionaire. If she can, so can any one of us reading this article I’ve posted.

First and foremost, I want to thank you for visiting my blog.

Personal Introduction

Before I start, let me first introduce myself. I’m Jun Yuan (you can call me JY for short) and I am born and bred in Singapore. I have graduated from the University of London in Computing and Information System with a First Class Honours degree in 2005 and currently working as an executive.

I have huge interests in developing websites and conducting IT training (I have done IT training on web design and news production to Primary and Secondary school students, as well as NITLP (National IT Literacy Programmes – a programme initiated by the Singapore government for adults / senior citizens with very little or no computing experience to learn how to surf the Internet, as well as to send and receive emails) from 2003 – 2004 while doing my degree part-time and have learnt a lot during those 2 years, especially in the area of managing interpersonal relationships and speaking in front of a large number of audiences. Currently, I have 2 personal webpages – 1 containing more information about myself (including my resume, projects done in school and as a freelance programmer, etc.), and the other one dedicated to my girlfriend and I.

This is the first time I’m creating a blog, so pardon me if it is not up to standard. If you have any tips on how I can improve it, please let me know. I’ll be most happy to learn from you.

Personal Experience on Money Making

I know the first question you might be thinking of asking me is “Junyuan, you’re an IT graduate. What knowledge do you have on money making ?”

Let me share with you my story – Right after I graduated, I harboured same thoughts as many fresh graduates – to find a stable and good paying job. I do not have other money making intentions. My only source of income will be from my monthly salary.

My perception on money making remained as such until I started reading a book on how one can be a self-made millionaire. (I will share with you more on what I have learnt from this book in my next postings.) The book shared with me something which I want to share with all of you – it IS possible to make money from the Internet, and it IS possible to do so without any upfront costs.

Interesting, isn’t it ? Yes ! I felt it was truly amazing ! I dived right in to more research online and read even more books on Internet marketing, spending my free time on them, and applying the different money making techniques I’ve learnt. I will share with you my experiences as well.

Blog contents

I would like to share with you the tips and tricks on how we can make money on the Internet. It is possible to make money on the Internet provided we have applied the right skills.

Just for your information, I am still learning (via trial and error and learning from people’s past experiences) and trying to uncover the secrets to making money online.
